PPA #41--Inspiration Flower Card for Mother's Day

I loved the leaves of the flowers touching each other across the pitchers and I also loved the colors, so that’s what I went for.

I started with a Real Red base and layered it with Tempting Turquoise. Using my Stamp-a-ma-jig, I created my flowers from the Petal Pizzazz stamp set (an absolute favorite of mine!) in So Saffron, Real Red, and Tempting Turquoise on Whisper White. I then ran this through my Big Shot using Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions. Love that texture! I placed it onto the Tempting Turquoise cardstock.

I added a So Saffron ribbon from the Elementary Ribbon Originals across the bottom of the card and tied a separate bow and placed that on my card. And last, I stamped my sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes onto Whisper White in Real Red and popped it out with my Modern Label Punch. I added two strips of Real Red behind the Whisper White and put it on my card using a Pop-up Glue Dot.

As I was photographing the card, I realized that the flowers were different heights and didn’t match perfectly across the paper. But then I looked out my window and saw my beautiful flowers in my garden and realized that none of them were the same heights either. So, I decided my card looks more natural this way. PPA #37: Flowers, Flowers Everywhere

   

It’s time for another PPA Challenge and this week is a theme challenge. What better way to welcome spring than with a Flowers Challenge? Credit for my card today goes to my wonderful upline, Mary Fish, who always inspires me with her sources of inspiration. I love that she looks through catalogs – real and virtual – to find many of her ideas.

Here’s my inspiration for my card this week--a Crate and Barrel ad. Can you see the elements that inspired me? I hope so. I had so much fun creating this card and I do hope you like it, too.

PPA #31--A Little Birdie Told Me Inspiration Card

Wow! It's Thursday again which means it's time to Play at PPA! Please join us. We love to see what you create. This week we have an Inspiration Photo to inspire us. 

I thought this challenge was going to be difficult for me since I am the author of these words in my children's book, Oh, My! Ginny Fry!: First Grade Trouble (which is semi-autobiographical!)--"I don't like birds. I don't like their beaks. I don't like their beady eyes. I don't like their feathers. And, I don't like the sound their wings make when they fly. Birds scare me--even if Rocky [the class bird] is canary yellow. I do like that color crayon." 

But, it turned out that I really enjoyed this challenge. I think that's what challenges are all about. You really never know what is going to inspire you.

Here's the Inspiration Photo:

Can you guess which quadrant my eyes went to immediately? Yup, the lower right-hand corner. I love the golds and greens in the photo.

Here's what I did:

I chose a base of Summer Sun cardstock and layered it with Old Olive cardstock.

I knew exactly which paper I wanted to use from the "Pink Flamingo" DSP--the Summer Sun and Whisper White Floral Pattern. I used my Corner Rounder Punch on two opposite corners of the Old Olive and the DSP and adhered them to my base.

I chose three flowers from the Petal Pizzazz Stamp Set and stamped them in Old Olive onto Whisper White and heat embossed them with clear powder and my heat tool. I then cut out each flower with my Paper Snips. I adhered them to the corner of my card using Snail Adhesive for the big flower and Stampin' Dimensionals for the two smaller ones.

My bird is from the Of the Earth Stamp Set. I stamped the entire stamp using my Versamark pad onto Old Olive and heat embossed it with clear powder and my heat tool. This made the outline of the bird very easy to see. I cut it out as carefully as I could using my paper snips.

I then ran Old Olive and Whisper White cardstock through my Big Shot Die-Cut Machine using my Lots of Tags Sizzlits Die-Cut. I followed the perforated lines on the Whisper White and punched it out. Then I adhered it onto the Old Olive. I stamped "For You" from the Happy Moments Stamp Set in Old Olive using my Stamp-a-ma-jig. At the last moment, I flashed on the idea of threading Linen Thread through the hole I made in the tiny tags with my 1/16" circle punch and stretching it out to reach my tiny bird as though he was flying through the air carrying this message to a special someone. I glued the Linen Thread under the beak of the bird and adhered him sitting on one of the flowers with a Stampin' Dimensional.

PPA #20--Sunny Petal Pizzazz Birthday Card

   

Welcome to another Pals Paper Arts Challenge! This one is a Color Combo Challenge.

 

Here are the colors.  

 
  
Here’s what I did:

•I created a 4” x 6” base of Soft Suede. I cut a 3-1/2” x 5-1/2” piece of Crushed Curry and ran it through my Big Shot Die-Cut Machine using the Daisies Texturz Plate.

•I used a leftover scrap of the “Leaves” paper from the Petal Party Simply Scrappin’ Kit. I cut it to 2-3/4” x 3-1/2”.

•I adhered both the Crushed Curry and the Leaves paper to the base of my card leaving room for the “Old Olive” Ribbon from the Elementary Ribbon Originals on the left side and top of my card. I adhered each ribbon with Snail Adhesive and then I created my bow separately and fastened it to the corner of the card with a Mini-Glue Dot.

•I stamped the “Leaves and the Stems” from the Petal Pizzazz Two-Step Stamp Set in Versamark onto Old Olive cardstock using my Stamp-a-ma-jig to line up the leaves along the stem exactly where I wanted them. Gina’s Tip: I have two absolutely favorite tools that I think are must-haves for stampers--the Stamp-a-ma-jig and the Stampin’ Scrub. If you’re new to stamping, I would say that these two items should be at the top of your wish list. I then sprinkled “Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder” onto the leaves and stems and heated them with my Heat Tool.

•I chose two flowers from Petal Pizzazz and stamped them in Versamark onto the Crushed Curry and did the same as above with my heat tool.

•I cut out the stems, leaves, and flowers, popped a Yellow Circle Fire Rhinestone in the middle of the large flower and placed it on the card with a Pop-up Glue Dot. I recessed the smaller flower and adhered it directly to the card.

•My “Happy Birthday” sentiment is from the Four Square Stamp Set. I colored it with my Soft Suede In-Color Marker and stamped it onto Crushed Curry. I punched it out with my coordinating “Scallop Square Punch.” Gina’s Tip: I know I’ve said this before, but one of the things (among so many) that I love about Stampin’ Up! is that their materials coordinate so beautifully with each other. The Four Square Stamp Set works perfectly with the Scallop Square Punch.

Many of you know that the past seven months have been extremely difficult in the Shaw household. My mother-in-law has been ill since May when she had triple bypass surgery and then complication after complication including a broken hip and rehab after rehab for just about everything. But the good news is that she’s home now in her own apartment and yesterday was her 85^th birthday! My husband and I will be celebrating with her today.

 

When I sat down to create this card, I thought about all that Mom loves—bright colors, beautiful artwork, and flowers! Her apartment in Manhattan is filled with representations of all of these. I rifled through my Designer Series Papers with an idea in mind and stopped as soon as I came to my Pink Flamingo DSP. So, Mom, Happy 85^th Birthday! This one’s for you! 

 

Here’s what I did:

 

•I created my base from Real Red cardstock, 4-1/4” x 5-1/2”.

 

•I chose the “Real Red Small Daisy” DSP and the “Bright and Bold Floral Pattern” from the Pink Flamingo Designer Series Paper for my next layers, progressively cutting them a ¼” smaller all around.

 

•Before adhering these layers to my base, I added my Real Red Grosgrain Ribbon and wrapped them around my papers as I would a gift box.

 

•I ran a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock through my Big Shot Die-Cut Machine using the Stampin’ Up! Lots of Tags Die-Cut and stamped “Happy Birthday” from the Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Set in Taken With Teal using my Stamp-a-ma-jig. Gina’s Tip: I don’t know what I would do without my Stamp-a-ma-jig. If you like to make exact arrangements on your cards, this is a must-have tool! I tied the tiny tag to the card with the Gold Elastic Cord and used a Pop-Up Glue Dot to keep the tag in place.

 

For the interior:

 

 

•I layered Whisper White cardstock onto the base.

 

•Then I stamped the “Small Flower” from the “Petal Pizzazz” Stamp Set in two of the corners using my Stamp-a-ma-jig.

 

I’ll write up my card, wrap Mom’s “other” gifts (oh, if only I had Pink Flamingo wrapping paper!), and we’re ready to celebrate!

Mojo Monday #101--Kaleidoscope Card for Any Occasion

 

I’m still playing catch-up from my vacation, but I was able to make a card for Mojo Monday 101 even though today is Friday!

 

Here’s the sketch.

 

 

Here’s what I did.

 

The base is Tempting Turquoise in a 6” x 6” square which I layered with Pink Passion and Green Galore cardstock. I followed the sketch and used the “Leaf Pattern” of the Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper as well as the “Floral Circles” for the “ribbon” of my card.

 

I stamped the largest flower from the Petal Pizzazz Stamp Set onto Pink Passion with my Versamark pad and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder. Then I cut out the flower and adhered it to my card with a pop-up glue dot so that it looked as though it was coming out of the stem of the DSP.

 

I love the Floral Circles paper of the Kaleidoscope DSP so I punched out three of them and placed them in the upper right-hand corner of my card.

 

I had fun making this card since I love to mix and match patterns and colors. Stampin’ Up!’s papers and inks make this so easy to do.
