I love this week’s Pals Paper Arts Challenge—“winter and holiday-themed projects are welcome.” Having just finished many Hanukkah and Christmas cards, I was definitely in the mood for something different. But, I learned from making my holiday cards that I loved working with my Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter and, by accident, I figured out a way to use them so that they would stay on my card.
Here’s what I did:
•I love the blue cast that you see on white snow in the winter so I thought I would use that as my jumping-off point. My base is Bordering Blue cardstock cut to 4-1/2” x 5-1/4”.
•I cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock one-quarter of an inch smaller all around and stamped the “Snowflake” from the Sweet Season Stamp Set in Craft Whisper White onto the cardstock in small sections. I then poured Heat and Stick Powder onto the snowflakes, tapped off the excess, added Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter and used my Heat Tool to heat emboss the snowflakes. Gina’s Tip: The first time I did this, I accidentally poured the excess Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter into the Heat and Stick Powder container…and that’s where my accident happened. From then on for the remaining sections, I poured the Heat and Stick Powder plus Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter onto the snowflakes and then added a tad more Dazzling Diamonds before heat embossing. The result—glitter that stayed on and showed up on the cardstock. I love when accidents happen! I learn so much from them.
•Using the same treatment, I stamped the “Snowflake” onto a scrap piece of Bordering Blue cardstock and punched it out with my Scallop Circle Punch. The Scallop Circle Punch fits perfectly around the “Snowflake” stamp—no muss, no fuss! I added it to my card with a Stampin’ Dimensional.
•Then it occurred to me that this color combination would make a very pretty New Year’s card. So I reached for my Not Quite Navy ribbon from the Elementary Ribbons Originals (anyone out there who’s a fan of Blue Velvet for winter evening wear? I think it’s so elegant!) and added a strip of it across my card. I tied a separate bow and adhered it sideways with a Mini-Glue Dot.
•I stamped my “Happy New Year” sentiment from the Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Set in Not Quite Navy onto Whisper White and punched it out with my Modern Label Punch. I used another Stampin’ Dimensional to adhere it to the ribbon.
Happy, happy holidays, everyone! If you have a minute, won’t you join us and play at the PPA or at least stop by to see the beautiful creations? They're awe-inspiring!
