OCC Sketch Challenge SASSC38—Night & Day Masculine Birthday Card

What fun I had creating this card for the OCC Challenge this week!

 

Here’s the sketch:

 

 

Here’s what I did:

 

•I started with a Whisper White base (4-1/4” x 5-1/2”). I cut off a 1” vertical

strip on the right side of the front of the cover (not viewable here—sorry!)

 

•Following the sketch, I used four different patterns from the Night & Day Specialty Designer Series Paper (from the Holiday Mini Catalog). I have wanted to use this paper ever since I got it! I love each of the designs it comes with. (Gina’s Tip: Since this is a masculine birthday card, I didn’t want to add a bow so I created a faux ribbon by cutting a triangle out of the end of a 1-1/2” strip of the herringbone paper.)

 

•Once my DSP was in place, I layered a Basic Black rectangle on top and then stamped my “Happy Birthday Wishes” from the Fun and Fast Notes Stamp Set in Basic Black onto a rectangle of  Whisper White cardstock. I adhered my stamped image/sentiment to the Basic Black cardstock, cutting it a ¼” smaller all around.

 

•I colored in the stamp using my 2009-2010 In-Color Markers using Bermuda Bay and Crushed Curry.

 

•I created my scalloped edge with my Scallop Edge Punch on a fifth sheet of Night & Day designer paper. Gina’s Tip: All of the designs coordinate seamlessly in this Designer Specialty Paper pack.

PPA #10--With Gratitude and Thanks Birthday Card

It’s that time again for the Pals Paper Arts Challenge. Here’s this week’s challenge: “We encourage you to create with a spirit of gratitude and thanks whether your project represents something or someone you're grateful for, is a simple thank-you note, or has a Thanksgiving motif.”

This week was the birthday of one of my dearest friends so this challenge was perfect for me to tell her how much I appreciate her in my life. And, you probably won’t believe this, but she is my husband’s ex-wife and throughout the past 20 years, we have grown extremely close. Her son is my stepson and we’re the proud grandmothers (along with our daughter-in-law’s mother) of our delicious grandson Micah. I’m so grateful that we can share all of life’s ups and downs together--and through it all, we always manage to keep our sense of humor. So, happy birthday, Marjie, and thank you for being you and for being such an important person in my life!

Here’s what I did:

Since purple is one of Marjie’s favorite colors, I had to go back to one of my most favorite and, I think, most versatile Designer Series Papers (DSP)—Razzleberry Lemonade. With its rich purples and golds, I thought this paper was perfect for Thanksgiving as well.

I created a base of 5-1/2” x 4-1/4” of Rich Razzleberry cardstock, folded at the top.

I used my Corner Rounder Punch on all four corners and layered the “Rich Razzleberry/Melon Mambo/Crushed Curry Floral Pattern” and then the “Crushed Curry Floral Pattern” of the Razzleberry Lemonade and adhered them to my base.

To give my card more depth, I ran a piece of Rich Razzleberry cardstock through my Big Shot using one of the Texture Plates from Kit #4. I used my Corner Rounder punch once again and adhered this layer to my card.

My sentiment is from the “Porcupine and Butterfly” stamp in the Fun and Fast Notes Stamp Set. I used my Rich Razzleberry In-Color Marker to color in the words only and stamped the sentiment onto Crushed Curry cardstock. I used my Scallop Oval Punch and punched out my sentiment as well as a piece of the “White Floral Pattern” Razzleberry Lemonade DSP. I adhered my sentiment to the DSP. I created a holder for my sentiment by using the Slit Punch. To make sure my sentiment stayed where I placed it, I added a Stampin’ Dimensional behind it.

Next, I punched out another oval scallop of the “White Floral Pattern” and using only a small portion of the “Floral” stamp from the Razzle Dazzle Stamp Set, I colored it in with my Rich Razzleberry and Melon Mambo In-Color Markers and stamped it onto Crushed Curry cardstock. I, once again, punched this out with my Scallop Oval Punch and I placed them side by side on my card.

For the interior of my card, I adhered a piece of Crushed Curry cardstock, rounding all four corners. I stamped only the “Happy Birthday Wishes” sentiment from the Fun and Fast Notes Stamp Set and punched it out with my Scallop Oval Punch. I then punched out two Oval Scallops from the “Rich Razzleberry/Melon Mambo/Crushed Curry Floral Pattern” and adhered both behind my sentiment.

 

My finishing touches—two “Small Flowers” from the Razzle Dazzle stamp set, colored in Rich Razzleberry and Melon Mambo using the In-Color Markers and stamped directly onto the Crushed Curry cardstock.

PPA #6--Tri-Color Congratulations Card

This week is a color challenge to use Brocade Blue, Ruby Red, and Crushed Curry.

 

 

I knew I didn’t have Ruby Red or Brocade Blue inks so I decided to use my pastels … and oh, what fun I had!

 

 

Here’s what I did:

 

I made a base of Brocade Blue—4-1/4” x 6” folded on the side.

 

I trimmed a 3-1/2” x 3-1/2” square of Whisper White and randomly stamped it with three of my Circle Circus stamps in Crushed Curry. It’s difficult to see but I did emboss the circles with Stampin’ Glitter Dazzling Diamonds.

Using Ruby Red, Brocade Blue, and surprise! surprise! Summer Sun (which when blended really resembles Crushed Curry) pastels, I colored in the area around the circles, leaving the interiors of the circles white…so they would pop! Gina’s Tip: By this time, you probably all know how much I love color against white and how I think white makes all colors pop beautifully!

 

I adhered my stamped image to Ruby Red leaving an 1/8” border all around. I used my Eyelet Border Punch on the Crushed Curry cardstock, adhered it to the bottom and under the Ruby Red, and placed this entire piece onto my base.

 

I stamped my sentiment from the Fun & Fast Notes set in Crushed Curry onto Whisper White. I punched out stars in Ruby Red, Brocade Blue, and Crushed Curry and placed them randomly around my card.

Circle Circus Stamp Set--$28.95

PPA #2--Wedding Card

I LOVE TO PLAY AT PPA! This is our second Pals Challenge and once again I found myself doing a monochromatic card. I’m going to a wedding this weekend and I know that the bride likes the motif of branches and leaves. She used them on her shower invitation and thank-you note. So I tried to create a wedding card that would “play” on what she likes.

 

 

 

  

 

Here’s the sketch for Pals Paper Arts Challenge #2.

 

 

Here’s what I did:

 

I created a base from Sahara Sand that is 5-1/2” x 8,” scored on the side. I love the Autumn Traditions DSP so I chose the “Soft Suede/Sahara Sand Leaf and Branch” pattern. I used my Scallop Punch on the bottom of the DSP and adhered this to my base.

 

Then I glued the “Very Tiny Leaves” Soft Suede DSP from Autumn Traditions on top of the Leaf and Branch DSP pattern. I stamped the “Birch Leaf” pattern from the Leaf Lines Stamp Set in Chocolate Chip on Sahara Sand and used Certainly Celery ink to watercolor the leaves. I placed it in a diamond shape onto the card.

 

I added Soft Suede ribbon on the plain side. Gina’s Tip: The new In-Color Ribbon is plain on one side and has polka dots on the other. This is so helpful since you can choose which side works best for your card.

 

I stamped the sentiment “Together Forever” from the Fun & Fast Notes Stamp Set in Chocolate Chip and punched it out with my Modern Label Punch. I adhered that on top of my Soft Suede ribbon. Gina’s Tip: Use a baby wipe to clean off any excess ink you get on a stamp so you’re able to stamp only what you want.
