PPA #17--Bella Bleu Birthday Card

It’s time for the Pals Paper Arts Challenge and this week’s is a Sketch Challenge. Won't you join me in playing at PPA?

 

I needed to make a birthday card for a very good friend of mine and my Pal Margaret Moody’s sketch was just perfect for what I had in mind. I know how much my friend Ava loves anything designed with a country French look so I chose the Bella Bleu Designer Series Paper (DSP) which I have wanted to use for a long time now.

 

Here’s the sketch.

 

•I followed the sketch using the “Vanilla and Kraft Floral” paper from Bella Bleu and adhered it to a base of Not Quite Navy cardstock.

 

•My squares are made up of Very Vanilla, Not Quite Navy, and two different designs of “Very Vanilla and Not Quite Navy” papers also from Bella Bleu.

 

•My sentiment is stamped in Not Quite Navy onto Very Vanilla. I punched out a piece of DSP along with Not Quite Navy cardstock with my Modern Label Punch and added my sentiment to these two layers. I used a pop-up glue dot to adhere the sentiment to the card.

 

•I continued my colors into the interior of the card and used my Ticket Corner Punch on the papers. Again, I stamped my sentiment in Not Quite Navy onto Very Vanilla and punched it out with the Modern Label Punch.

 

I will drop my card into the mailbox this afternoon to wish Ava a very happy birthday.

Mojo Monday 113--What's Red and White All Over?

 
It's Thursday, but I finally got my mojo on! Here's the Mojo Monday sketch that I followed.

I basically followed the sketch using Real Red cardstock and three different papers from the Christmas Cocoa Specialty Designer Series Paper.

I heat embossed my ornament from the Delightful Decorations Stamp Set and added Real Red grosgrain ribbon to it with a mini-glue dot.

My sentiment is from the "Sweet Season" Stamp Set.

I attached the ornament and my sentiment with pop-up glue dots.

Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah, Come Light the Menorah

I’m so sorry for the delay between posts. The week totally got away from me. I’ve had a lot of freelance writing and editing deadlines to meet and I’ve been busy celebrating my birthday as well. I also had to prepare for a Stampin’ Up! workshop which took place this past Sunday. Two of my former colleagues were the joint hosts and what a fun time we all had! Thank you, Erin and Jennifer!

I did, however, find a little time to create a Hanukkah card which I thought I’d share with you.

Here’s what I did.

•I created a base of 4-1/4” x 5-1/2” of Rich Razzleberry cardstock.

•I layered the base with the “White Floral Pattern” from the Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series Paper.

•I colored in the “Let There Be Light” stamp using my 2009-2010 In-Color Markers--Crushed Curry for the menorah and the flames and Rich Razzleberry for the candles.  I huffed and then stamped it onto Whisper White cardstock. Using Summer Sun Stampin’ Pastels, I lightly colored in the cardstock.

•I cut the stamped image in half and added a pop-up glue dot to the top half. I adhered both pieces to the “Crushed Curry Floral Pattern” of the DSP.

•Then I punched out the corners of the “Rich Razzleberry Floral Pattern” with my Photo Corner punch and placed the large corners around my stamped image.

•For the interior of the card, I layered a piece of the “Crushed Curry Floral Pattern.”

•Then, I colored in the saying only of the “Let There Be Light” stamp using my Rich Razzleberry In-Color Marker and stamped it onto Whisper White. I cut it out and adhered it to a rectangular piece of Whisper White. Once again, I punched out four corners of the “Rich Razzleberry Floral Pattern” DSP and placed them around my rectangle.  

The deep purples and golds of the Razzleberry Lemonade DSP really remind me of Hanukkah colors.

Holiday Hop--Floating Leaf Lines Card

  
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Welcome to the Pals’ Holiday Hop! Hope you’re having a great time hopping from one blog to the next!

 

My card today features the Leaf Lines Stamp Set.

Here’s what I did:

 

•My base is 5-1/2” x 4-1/4” created from More Mustard cardstock.

 

•I placed a ½” of “Striped” paper from the Autumn Traditions Designer Series Paper at the top of my card. Gina’s Tip: The Autumn Traditions DSP papers are made up of--Elegant Eggplant, Soft Suede, Ruby Red, More Mustard, and Always Artichoke—my favorite Fall colors!

 

•I then added the “White and Color Leaves” patterned paper to the bottom of my card.

 

•I stamped the three leaves from the Leaf Lines Stamp Set in Old Olive, Rich Razzleberry, and Real Red onto More Mustard cardstock and snipped out each leaf. Gina’s Tip: Try using different inks on colored cardstock. You’ll be surprised as to what matches the Designer Series Paper and what doesn’t.

 

•I then made three loops of hemp twine and glued one to each of my leaves. I cut out a ¼” strip of Elegant Eggplant and slipped the leaves onto the strip. I then attached this strip onto the card where the two designer papers meet. I added a bit of hemp twine at either end of the strip to tie the card together.

 

•For the interior, I layered Elegant Eggplant and More Mustard cardstock and used my Ticket Corner Punch on all four corners of both cardstock papers.

 

•I stamped my sentiment and the shamrock in Elegant Eggplant onto More Mustard. I punched out my sentiment using my Modern Label Punch and cut out the shamrock. I then punched out another piece of Elegant Eggplant, cut it in half and layered it behind my sentiment.

PPA #15--Flower Burst Thank-You Card

  
 

Whoa! Challenges take me to places that I have no idea I’m going to! That’s why I love to play at PPA! Today’s is a color challenge. Here are the colors:

 

 
  

I knew I wanted to use my Embosslits Flower Burst Die and Big Shot Die-Cut Machine. I’ve had those flowers swirling around in my head ever since I got the die. But, what was I going to do with them? Today’s card is the result. It may be a little over the top and something I would never have tried if it weren’t for this challenge.

Here’s what I did:

•I used the Basic Gray cardstock for my base which is 5-1/2” x 4-1/4”.

•I knew that one of my favorite retired Designer Series Papers, Sweet Slumber, had Ruby Red in it so I pulled out the papers and chose the “Circle” design. I adhered that to my base, leaving a ¼” of the Basic Gray all around. 

•I chose the “Polka Dot” Ruby Red DSP and “Taken with Teal” cardstock and ran them through my Big Shot Die-Cut Machine several times using the Embosslits Flower Burst Die.

•I arranged the flowers on both sides of my card in opposite colors and added a Red Circle Fire Brad to the middle of each middle flower. Gina’s Note: If I was going over the top, I was going all the way! I also overlapped the flowers to break the borders of my card. I love that in paintings so I thought I would try it here.

•My “Thank You” sentiment is from the Enjoy Every Moment Stamp Set. I stamped it in Taken with Teal onto Very Vanilla and punched it out with my Scallop Oval Punch.

•I also punched out a piece of the “Polka Dot” Ruby Red DSP with my Large Oval Punch, cut it in half, and placed it behind my sentiment to pop it.

 

That’s my PPA #15 card! I’m glad I played along this week. I hope you will play too and see where the challenge takes you!

Mojo Monday 111--A Cottage Wall Card

Yaayyy! I finally got the chance to use my Cottage Wall Designer Series Paper! I’ve been wanting to do so ever since I received it in the Pals Paper Swap…and just couldn’t find the right card for it. But this week’s Mojo Monday Challenge was the perfect opportunity for me to use it.

 

Here’s the sketch.

 

Here’s what I did:

 

•I started with a 5-1/2” x 4-1/4” base of Orchid Opulence cardstock.

 

•Following the sketch, I cut the coordinating “Floral” Rich Razzleberry and Orchid Opulence papers from the Cottage Wall Designer Series Paper in a 2 to 1 ratio.

 

•I stamped the “Snowflake/Floral” stamp from the Sweet Season Stamp Set in Rich Razzleberry onto Whisper White cardstock and punched it out with my Scallop Circle Punch—a perfect fit! Gina’s Tip: I wasn’t sure if the stamp was a snowflake or a flower, but I loved the way the curves of the stamp echoed the floral curves in the DSP.

 

•I ran a piece of Rich Razzleberry cardstock through my Big Shot Die-Cut Machine using the “Woodgrain” Texturz Plate and adhered my stamp to it.

 

•Then I cut a piece of Rich Razzleberry polka dot grosgrain ribbon and placed it between the two “Floral” pieces of paper. Using my craft knife, I poked a small hole in the Orchid Opulence DSP and added a Filigree Designer Brad. Now, I was ready to adhere everything to the base of the card.

 

•Lastly, I stamped my sentiment from the Razzle Dazzle Stamp Set in Rich Razzleberry onto Whisper White and punched it out with my Modern Label Punch.

 

For all of you purple fans out there, the Cottage Wall Designer Series Paper is really stunning!
