Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah, Come Light the Menorah

I’m so sorry for the delay between posts. The week totally got away from me. I’ve had a lot of freelance writing and editing deadlines to meet and I’ve been busy celebrating my birthday as well. I also had to prepare for a Stampin’ Up! workshop which took place this past Sunday. Two of my former colleagues were the joint hosts and what a fun time we all had! Thank you, Erin and Jennifer!

I did, however, find a little time to create a Hanukkah card which I thought I’d share with you.

Here’s what I did.

•I created a base of 4-1/4” x 5-1/2” of Rich Razzleberry cardstock.

•I layered the base with the “White Floral Pattern” from the Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series Paper.

•I colored in the “Let There Be Light” stamp using my 2009-2010 In-Color Markers--Crushed Curry for the menorah and the flames and Rich Razzleberry for the candles.  I huffed and then stamped it onto Whisper White cardstock. Using Summer Sun Stampin’ Pastels, I lightly colored in the cardstock.

•I cut the stamped image in half and added a pop-up glue dot to the top half. I adhered both pieces to the “Crushed Curry Floral Pattern” of the DSP.

•Then I punched out the corners of the “Rich Razzleberry Floral Pattern” with my Photo Corner punch and placed the large corners around my stamped image.

•For the interior of the card, I layered a piece of the “Crushed Curry Floral Pattern.”

•Then, I colored in the saying only of the “Let There Be Light” stamp using my Rich Razzleberry In-Color Marker and stamped it onto Whisper White. I cut it out and adhered it to a rectangular piece of Whisper White. Once again, I punched out four corners of the “Rich Razzleberry Floral Pattern” DSP and placed them around my rectangle.  

The deep purples and golds of the Razzleberry Lemonade DSP really remind me of Hanukkah colors.

Mojo Monday 111--A Cottage Wall Card

Yaayyy! I finally got the chance to use my Cottage Wall Designer Series Paper! I’ve been wanting to do so ever since I received it in the Pals Paper Swap…and just couldn’t find the right card for it. But this week’s Mojo Monday Challenge was the perfect opportunity for me to use it.

 

Here’s the sketch.

 

Here’s what I did:

 

•I started with a 5-1/2” x 4-1/4” base of Orchid Opulence cardstock.

 

•Following the sketch, I cut the coordinating “Floral” Rich Razzleberry and Orchid Opulence papers from the Cottage Wall Designer Series Paper in a 2 to 1 ratio.

 

•I stamped the “Snowflake/Floral” stamp from the Sweet Season Stamp Set in Rich Razzleberry onto Whisper White cardstock and punched it out with my Scallop Circle Punch—a perfect fit! Gina’s Tip: I wasn’t sure if the stamp was a snowflake or a flower, but I loved the way the curves of the stamp echoed the floral curves in the DSP.

 

•I ran a piece of Rich Razzleberry cardstock through my Big Shot Die-Cut Machine using the “Woodgrain” Texturz Plate and adhered my stamp to it.

 

•Then I cut a piece of Rich Razzleberry polka dot grosgrain ribbon and placed it between the two “Floral” pieces of paper. Using my craft knife, I poked a small hole in the Orchid Opulence DSP and added a Filigree Designer Brad. Now, I was ready to adhere everything to the base of the card.

 

•Lastly, I stamped my sentiment from the Razzle Dazzle Stamp Set in Rich Razzleberry onto Whisper White and punched it out with my Modern Label Punch.

 

For all of you purple fans out there, the Cottage Wall Designer Series Paper is really stunning!

OCC Sketch Challenge SASSC38—Night & Day Masculine Birthday Card

What fun I had creating this card for the OCC Challenge this week!

 

Here’s the sketch:

 

 

Here’s what I did:

 

•I started with a Whisper White base (4-1/4” x 5-1/2”). I cut off a 1” vertical

strip on the right side of the front of the cover (not viewable here—sorry!)

 

•Following the sketch, I used four different patterns from the Night & Day Specialty Designer Series Paper (from the Holiday Mini Catalog). I have wanted to use this paper ever since I got it! I love each of the designs it comes with. (Gina’s Tip: Since this is a masculine birthday card, I didn’t want to add a bow so I created a faux ribbon by cutting a triangle out of the end of a 1-1/2” strip of the herringbone paper.)

 

•Once my DSP was in place, I layered a Basic Black rectangle on top and then stamped my “Happy Birthday Wishes” from the Fun and Fast Notes Stamp Set in Basic Black onto a rectangle of  Whisper White cardstock. I adhered my stamped image/sentiment to the Basic Black cardstock, cutting it a ¼” smaller all around.

 

•I colored in the stamp using my 2009-2010 In-Color Markers using Bermuda Bay and Crushed Curry.

 

•I created my scalloped edge with my Scallop Edge Punch on a fifth sheet of Night & Day designer paper. Gina’s Tip: All of the designs coordinate seamlessly in this Designer Specialty Paper pack.

Mojo Monday #110--Rich Razzleberry Sympathy Card

What a morning! My husband left the house to go off to work with the sympathy card I asked him to mail for me. Several moments later, I heard the front door open and there he stood saying, “Don’t be mad at me! Look at what happened!” He had dropped the card into a large puddle in our driveway…and that was the end of that card.

So, I started all over again using the Mojo Monday #110 Sketch and came up with this card.

 

Here’s what I did:

 

•I followed the sketch using Rich Razzleberry cardstock (5” x 5” square base) and Rich Razzleberry Patterns Designer Series Paper. Gina’s Tip: I love mixing and matching all the different patterns. They coordinate so beautifully.

 

•I stamped the “Butterfly/Flower” Stamp from the Of the Earth Stamp Set onto Whisper White cardstock three times. The first time the stamp was inked normally and then I stamped it two more times, but did not re-ink it so it created two shadows of the original stamp. I punched out the image and added a ring of scallops around it.

 

•I stamped “With Sympathy” from the Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Set in Craft Whisper White onto Rich Razzleberry cardstock and heat embossed it with clear Stampin’ emboss powder. I punched out the sentiment using my Modern Label Punch and placed it on top of another Modern Label punched out of Whisper White cardstock and cut in half to make a border.

 

•I added a bow of Rich Razzleberry ribbon on the polka dot side as a finishing touch.

 

Now, I will go out and mail this card myself!

October OCC Color Challenge: With Sympathy Card

 

This week I unfortunately needed a sympathy card and I wasn’t quite sure what direction I should go in. Then I saw the colors in the OCC Challenge and decided that they just might be right for my card.

 

Here are the colors.

 

 

Here’s what I did:

 

●I created a 5-1/2” x 4-1/4” base of Handsome Hunter cardstock.

 

●I ran a piece of Soft Suede through my Big Shot Die-Cut Machine using my Eyelet Texturz Plate.

 

●I cut a piece of Sage Shadow 2-7/8” x 1-7/8” and adhered it to the top of my card.

 

●I stamped the “Floral” Stamp from the Note to Self Stamp Set onto Blush Blossom cardstock using my Versamark pad. With a sponge, I dabbed Handsome Hunter pastel from my Stampin’ Pastels onto the leaves of the flowers and then I dabbed Pink Passion pastel onto the flowers. I adhered the stamped image to the Sage Shadow rectangle. Gina’s Tip: I worked from dark to light on this card—keeping the background subdued and brightening it up in the smaller areas.

 

●I punched out the “Smaller Photo Corners” with my Photo Corner Punch in Sage Shadow and Blush Blossom and adhered them on two opposite sides of my image.

 

●I stamped “With Sympathy” from the Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Set using my Soft Suede In-Color Marker onto Blush Blossom and punched out my sentiment with my Modern Label Punch.

 

●For the finishing touch, I placed Soft Suede In-Color Ribbon at the bottom of the card, created a bow and adhered it separately to the ribbon, and then placed my sentiment on the right side of the ribbon.

 

I’m not sure I would have ever reached for these colors if it hadn’t been for this challenge and it’s a little hard for me to tell if I worked them as well as I might have. So, please feel free to leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

PPA #10--With Gratitude and Thanks Birthday Card

It’s that time again for the Pals Paper Arts Challenge. Here’s this week’s challenge: “We encourage you to create with a spirit of gratitude and thanks whether your project represents something or someone you're grateful for, is a simple thank-you note, or has a Thanksgiving motif.”

This week was the birthday of one of my dearest friends so this challenge was perfect for me to tell her how much I appreciate her in my life. And, you probably won’t believe this, but she is my husband’s ex-wife and throughout the past 20 years, we have grown extremely close. Her son is my stepson and we’re the proud grandmothers (along with our daughter-in-law’s mother) of our delicious grandson Micah. I’m so grateful that we can share all of life’s ups and downs together--and through it all, we always manage to keep our sense of humor. So, happy birthday, Marjie, and thank you for being you and for being such an important person in my life!

Here’s what I did:

Since purple is one of Marjie’s favorite colors, I had to go back to one of my most favorite and, I think, most versatile Designer Series Papers (DSP)—Razzleberry Lemonade. With its rich purples and golds, I thought this paper was perfect for Thanksgiving as well.

I created a base of 5-1/2” x 4-1/4” of Rich Razzleberry cardstock, folded at the top.

I used my Corner Rounder Punch on all four corners and layered the “Rich Razzleberry/Melon Mambo/Crushed Curry Floral Pattern” and then the “Crushed Curry Floral Pattern” of the Razzleberry Lemonade and adhered them to my base.

To give my card more depth, I ran a piece of Rich Razzleberry cardstock through my Big Shot using one of the Texture Plates from Kit #4. I used my Corner Rounder punch once again and adhered this layer to my card.

My sentiment is from the “Porcupine and Butterfly” stamp in the Fun and Fast Notes Stamp Set. I used my Rich Razzleberry In-Color Marker to color in the words only and stamped the sentiment onto Crushed Curry cardstock. I used my Scallop Oval Punch and punched out my sentiment as well as a piece of the “White Floral Pattern” Razzleberry Lemonade DSP. I adhered my sentiment to the DSP. I created a holder for my sentiment by using the Slit Punch. To make sure my sentiment stayed where I placed it, I added a Stampin’ Dimensional behind it.

Next, I punched out another oval scallop of the “White Floral Pattern” and using only a small portion of the “Floral” stamp from the Razzle Dazzle Stamp Set, I colored it in with my Rich Razzleberry and Melon Mambo In-Color Markers and stamped it onto Crushed Curry cardstock. I, once again, punched this out with my Scallop Oval Punch and I placed them side by side on my card.

For the interior of my card, I adhered a piece of Crushed Curry cardstock, rounding all four corners. I stamped only the “Happy Birthday Wishes” sentiment from the Fun and Fast Notes Stamp Set and punched it out with my Scallop Oval Punch. I then punched out two Oval Scallops from the “Rich Razzleberry/Melon Mambo/Crushed Curry Floral Pattern” and adhered both behind my sentiment.

 

My finishing touches—two “Small Flowers” from the Razzle Dazzle stamp set, colored in Rich Razzleberry and Melon Mambo using the In-Color Markers and stamped directly onto the Crushed Curry cardstock.

Back from Vacation and Of the Earth Thank You Card

I’m back…after a 10-day “Ain’t That America” vacation in which we drove to Nashville and saw The Hermitage and The Grand Ol’ Opry; Memphis—Beale Street, the Ducks at the Peabody Hotel, Graceland, and The Civil Rights Museum; Chicago—Frank Lloyd Wright’s Home and Studio; Cleveland—old and dear friends. And I can’t forget to mention that we ate our way through each of these cities as well! We had a terrific time, but I'm now glad to be home.

Before I left, I received a lovely brag book for photos of my grandson from one of my authors and I wanted to thank her for being so thoughtful so I created this card to send to her.

 

Here’s what I did.

I created a base from Bermuda Bay of 5-1/2” x 4-1/4,” scored and folded at the top. Gina’s Tip: This is a standard A-2 card.

I layered the “Floral Patterns” of the Melon Mambo and Bermuda Bay Patterns Designer Series Paper on top of the cardstock.

I cut the Melon Mambo ribbon at the bottom in an inverted V-shape and placed it on the polka dot side vertically down the center of the card.

Then I stamped the “Flowers and Butterfly” from the Of the Earth Level 1 Hostess Stamp Set onto Whisper White using Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, Dusty Durango, and Soft Suede In-Color Markers as well as a Spring Green Zig Marker (not SU!). Gina’s Tip: After you color in your stamp, huff on it to re-moisturize the colors before stamping onto your paper.

I used the Ticket Corner Punch on all four sides of my stamped image and adhered it to my card.

I stamped “Thank You” from the Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Set in Melon Mambo on to Whisper White and punched it out with my Modern Label Punch. 

My last step was to adhere my sentiment to the card.

Pals Paper Arts #1 Challenge--Wedding Card

 

How exciting! Today starts our Pals Paper Arts Challenge and you're invited to play along! We have our very own blog at www.PalsPaperArts.com. But most of all, I hope I will see your cards there!

 

This week's challenge was to incorporate Chocolate Chip and the Melon Mambo and Bermuda Bay In-Colors in any kind of card we liked. I needed a wedding card so I thought this was the perfect opportunity for me to make one.

 

Here’s my recipe:

 

●My base is Chocolate Chip cardstock—5-1/2” x 4-1/4” scored at the top.

 

●I chose the “Small Flowered Papers” from Melon Mambo and Bermuda Bay Patterns Designer Series Paper, cut them each on a diagonal, and adhered them to the base with my Snail Adhesive.

 

●I made my corners from the “Small Solid Flowered Paper” using Melon Mambo and Bermuda Bay Patterns Designer Series Paper.

 

●I stamped the “Three Wedding Cakes” from the Fun and Fast Notes Stamp Set in Chocolate Chip ink onto Whisper White cardstock and used my In-Color Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, and Soft Suede makers to color in the stamp. I added a touch of Certainly Celery ink for the leaves.

 

●I backed the stamped image onto Chocolate Chip. Then I punched two borders with the Eyelet Border Punch again using Bermuda Bay and Melon Mambo cardstock.

 

●The sentiment is from the Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Set. I stamped it in Craft White ink onto Chocolate Chip cardstock and sprinkled Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter on it. Then I punched it out using my Modern Label punch and adhered it to my card.

Give Thanks Card--Thanksgiving in July

 

My group, the Pals, decided that this week’s challenge was to create a holiday card—for any upcoming holiday we wanted. Since I love autumn and Thanksgiving is my all-time favorite holiday, I chose to create my Give Thanks card.

 

I started with a 5”x7” base of Soft Suede, scored and folded on the side. I layered the “Small Floral Print” from the Patterns Designer Series Paper in Pumpkin Pie onto the base. I used my round corner punch to punch the top and bottom edges on the right side of the card.

 

I just received my Leaf Lines Stamp Set and thought it was perfect for what I had in mind. Gina’s Note: The Leaf Lines Stamp Set is a new set being offered in the 2009-2010 Idea Book and Catalog. Did you know that all of the new products in the catalog are marked with an “n” so you can easily find them? I chose the “Oak Leaves with Acorns” stamp and inked it in Chocolate Chip and stamped it onto Very Vanilla cardstock. Using my Stampin’ Pastels, I colored the leaves in a combination of Old Olive and Only Orange pastels to make the leaves look as though they were just changing colors. I wanted the acorns to stand out a bit so I colored them in Bravo Burgundy pastel. Gina’s Note: The Stampin’ Pastels Palette contains 51 colors; are so easy to use; and don’t smear at all. You also don’t need to use any fixative because the color stays where you put in on your paper.

I layered my stamped piece onto Old Olive and then onto Soft Suede, but before adhering the layers, I used my corner punch to round all of the corners on each layer. I used my Snail adhesive to adhere the layers together.

 

Next, I stamped “Give Thanks” from the Holiday Best Level 1 Hostess Gift Stamp Set onto Very Vanilla in ink. I disassembled a Fire Circle Rhinestone Brad in Pumpkin and placed it next to my stamped saying with a glue dot. And, once again, I layered my stamped image onto Old Olive and Soft Suede and rounded my corners.

 

And lastly, I stamped the “Small Leaf” from the Leaf Lines Stamp Set across a piece of medium width twill tape in Chocolate Chip using my Stamp-a-ma-jig. Gina's Note: Now that I know how to use my Stamp-a-ma-jig, I can't imagine ever being without it! I colored the leaves in Old Olive and Only Orange pastels to tie the entire card together.

Today is a hot and humid day in July in NYC, but I’m cool thinking about Thanksgiving and autumn. Hope you are too!

Circle Circus Blank Note Card

 

I have been wanting to try my Circle Circus stamps since the day I received them. My group, The Pals, decided that this week's cardmaking challenge was to use items that we purchased from the new 2009-2010 catalog to create any type of card we wanted to. I had just found this ad in a Crate and Barrel catalog and thought I would try to come up with something along these lines.

 

So I stamped and colored and placed the circles around the card to try to get the same feel as the brown cloth above.

Here's what I did.

I cut a 9" by 4-1/2" piece of cardstock from Rich Razzleberry (new In-Color 2009-2010).

I measured 2-1/2" in from the outer sides of the card and scored and folded so my opening was in the front.

I cut two panels from the "Circles--Rich Razzleberry" paper which comes in the Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series Paper (DSP). (Anybody out there getting tired of me talking about the Razzleberry Lemonade DSP yet? I keep reaching for it because the colors are so intense and each card I've made so far this week has turned out completely different from each other.) I adhered the panels to the front of the card.

I stamped lots of different circles onto Very Vanilla cardstock in Chocolate Chip ink. For the smaller designed circles, I used Melon Mambo and Crushed Curry.

Then, I took my 2009-2010 In-Color Markers and had lots of fun coloring in my circles. When I finished, I either cut the circles by hand or punched them out with my circle punches and adhered them onto my card. Gina's Tip: In some of the circles, I left the Very Vanilla cardstock showing through. This helps to pop the colors on the card.

That's it! My card is finished and now I can save it for when I need a plain note card. I will adhere Very Vanilla cardstock to the interior and either write or stamp my message. It's always a good idea to have a few blank cards on hand for those occasions that suddenly pop up!
